Kosterlitz Family Collection circa 1920-1966

This collection contains both textual and photographic material. Photographic materials include: photo of members of the Thuringia, probably Breslau, early 1920s (removed to Photograph Collection); photos of Oppeln synagogue; photographs and slides of artwork by Claire Wagner Kosterlitz and of furniture designed by a fellow Bauhaus student of Claire Wagner Kosterlitz's, Gunter Hirschel-Protsch; photograph of Dr. Felise Goldmann the successor of Leo Baeck in Oppeln; newspaper clipping with photograph of Rabbi D. Braunschweiger (successor of Dr. Goldmann). Textual materials include: biographical information about Claire Wagner Kosterlitz and her mother Paula Hirschfeld Wagner; photocopy of Journal of American Medical Association magazine with mural featuring Dr. Ludwig Traub; notes on materials likely made by Mrs. Henry N. Klosterlitz.Claire Wagner was born in Oppeln in 1903. She studied at the Kunstgewerbe Akademie Dresden, the weaving school in Sorau, and the Bauhaus in Dessau. She married Henry N. Kosterlitz, a physician, in 1926. The couple had two children, and emigrated to the US in 1938. Claire continued her art studies in the US and studied at the Art Students League in New York City, at Fairleigh Dickinson University, and at the NJ Visual Arts Center.
