The findings are presented of an international comparative study of youth sports club members to determine their perspectives on the relationship between school and sport, and the influence of physical education on sport participation and membership of sports clubs. Participants in the study comprised two groups of 344 sports club members and school pupils from Luxembourg and Germany. Differences in terms of age, sex and school type were taken into account. The main findings indicate that school and physical education in both countries only have a slight, indirect influence on young people's decisions to become members of sports clubs and participate in sport.
