A new Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) transmission scheme termed as Generalised Pre-coding aided Spatial Modulation (GPSM) is proposed, where the key idea is that a particular subset of receive antennas is activated and the activation pattern itself conveys useful information. This is in contrast to the previously proposed Spatial Modulation (SM) schemes, which operated by activating a specific subset of transmit antennas.
