Graduation date: 1981The focus of this study was to identify persistent\ud problems in the developmental history of the American\ud Department of Defense dependents schools in Okinawa, Japan.\ud The period of time covered was from 1946 through 1978.\ud The study includes historical descriptions of curriculum\ud development, obtaining and maintaining school facilities,\ud and the changing ethnic composition of the student body. A\ud review of major public laws, directives, and Congressional\ud actions which influenced the dependents schools in Okinawa\ud is also included.\ud Several conclusions of the thesis are as follows:\ud 1) Congressional site visits and surveys were a direct\ud stimulus to improved educational programs for the overseas...
