Through the years the understanding of stellar physics has been continuously refined thanks to the progress in the determination of the input physics for the stellar models and in new observational capabilities. Now the general scenario is well defined and confirmed by a vast amount of observational data for the Sun and for field and cluster stars in our Galaxy.
