Sickness presenteeism prevalence and trends Sickness presenteeism, i.e. going to work despite judging one s current state of health as such that sick leave should be taken, was investigated in relation to occupation, work-organisation conditions and background factors. The study group comprised a random sample of 3136 persons, who responded to a questionnaire administered in conjunction with Statistics Sweden s labour market survey of late autumn/turn of the year 2000/2001. Fiftythree per cent reported that they had been present at work on more than one occasion during the preceding year, which represents a substantial increase compared with 1997 (when the figure was 37 percent).
