The Great Eastern

A series of print, illustration and graphic commissions for a collaboration of leading architects and designers demonstrating a commitment to design, sustainability and cultural policy including art in public spaces. An initial series of 12 images commissioned by Futurecity Arts, with Conran Design for Great Eastern Hotel Developments in London. The images were also used for printed matter promoting the hotel (designers Conran & Partners) in July 2006. The prints were a thematic response to the hotel's association with the heritage of railways and referenced the associated structural and graphical qualities. They are an example of an ongoing exploration of colour, light, surface and motif within selected aspects of architecture, structure and facade. Drawn using vector software, they combine printmaking techniques and the technology of inkjet printing using pigment inks and archival substrates.
