This book was published to accompany an exhibition of the same name held at the James Hockey Gallery, Farnham, on 27.4.01 - 23.6.01 and elsewhere. The exhibition of Japanese textile art involved 12 leading contemporary Japanese textile artists. An exploration of the 3-dimensional potential of textiles in innovative ways, combining their consummate understanding of the craft processes with media such as silk and stainless steel. Illustrated with examples of the artists work and references to their artistic evolvement, the text also provides an historical context and charts the development of a climate receptive to the idea of fibre works
