This thesis is divided into two parts. Both of them investigate current topics in quantum information processing. The first employs super-resolving stimulated emission depletion (STED) fluorescence microscopy for the characterization of solid-state spins as a resource for quantum information processing. The other focuses on the high-fidelity control of single quantum bits. In the first part, a custom built STED microscope is utilized to demonstrate imaging of the “Stuttgart 1” (ST1) center with a spatial resolution unlimited by the diffraction of light.
