The incidence of low back pain in the foundry industry: a case study from the point of view of ergonomics

This research had its origin in the verification of the incidence of lombalgy in employees of a foundry industry of gray and nodular iron. For the study, were fundamental the application of the ergonomic concepts to work. It was used as an instrument of research and collection of data, the direct observation, informal interviews, questionnaires with structured questions, videos and photographs. As the base of the research, the applied methodology was the Ergonomic Analysis of Work (A.E.T.), developed in its three stages: analysis of the demand; analysis of the task and the analysis of the activity. It was still sought, to research on the pains felt by the employees in the lumbar area what determined a deeper study of the postures adopted in the company by the employees. For the postural analysis, the method WinOWAS was used. Their results were calculated and analyzed for the due recommendations. With these results, beyond the obtained in the field research (through the application of questionnaires and observations), the existent correlations were calculated between the total removals from work and the removals by the lombalgies, occurred among the years of 2001 and 2005. It was aimed at calculating statistically, through the calculations of the linear correlation, the pains noticed by the employees, during the work day, as well as, its prolongation after its end. With the analysis of the obtained results, recommendations can be made for the foundry section, seeking the best quality of life for these workers and the decrease of lumbar embarrassaments, as well as to improve the productive process of the company.Esta pesquisa teve origem na verificação da incidência de lombalgia nos empregados de uma indústria de fundição de ferro cinzento e nodular. Para o estudo, foram fundamentais a aplicação dos conceitos ergonômicos ao trabalho. Utilizaram-se como instrumento de pesquisa e coleta de dados, a observação direta, entrevistas informais, questionários com questões estruturadas, filmagens e fotografias. Como base da pesquisa, a metodologia aplicada foi a Análise Ergonômica do Trabalho (A.E.T.), desenvolvida em suas três etapas: análise da demanda; análise da tarefa e a análise da atividade. Procurou-se ainda, pesquisar sobre as dores sentidas pelos empregados na região lombar, o que determinou estudo mais profundo das posturas adotadas na empresa pelos empregados. Para análise postural, foi utilizado o método WinOWAS. Seus resultados foram compatibilizados e analisados para as devidas recomendações. Com esses resultados, mais os obtidos na pesquisa de campo, através da aplicação de questionários e observações, foram calculadas as correlações existentes entre os afastamentos totais do trabalho e os afastamentos pelas lombalgias, ocorridos entre os anos de 2001 e 2005. Buscou-se calcular estatisticamente, através dos cálculos da correlação linear, as dores percebidas pelos empregados, durante a jornada de trabalho, bem como seu prolongamento após o término dela. Com a análise dos resultados obtidos, podem-se efetuar recomendações para o setor de fundição, visando à melhor qualidade de vida destes trabalhadores e diminuição dos constrangimentos lombares, bem como melhorar o processo produtivo da empresa
