It Takes a Village

Williams Distinguished LectureVivian Hunt is a Director of McKinsey & Company. Based in London, she leads McKinsey’s Pharmaceutical and Medical Products Practice, covering all strategy, commercial, R&D and other areas for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Over her twenty year career, she has served a variety of healthcare clients including payors, providers, manufacturers, pharmacy, and industry associations, and she has worked across this full range of players in Europe, the US, and in several Asian and West African markets. The Pharmaceutical and Medical Products Practice is one of McKinsey’s leading global industry groups and it combines with McKinsey’s work for global public health and social sector clients. Vivian has particular expertise in performance transformation, commercial strategy, and consumer healthcare. She also has broad geographic experience gained through serving clients and health systems across ten major markets. Further, she has direct experience with rural primary care and midwifery in West Africa and urban primary care financing. Prior to joining McKinsey, Vivian worked in both management and performance improvement roles in the healthcare and consumer sectors. She served as a Regional Coordinator, Midwife, and Volunteer in the US Peace Corps in Senegal and later, as a Healthcare Project Director, helping to structure and launch a Medicaid-managed care plan. Vivian has presented at a range of conferences related to healthcare, performance transformation, and leadership. She recently published a strategy white paper for Global Pharmaceuticals in the McKinsey Quarterly and edited McKinsey’s European Healthcare Commercial Compendium. She is on the Board of the Henry Smith Charity and the Board of Action on Addiction, a UKbased treatment, training and research charity committed to supporting people and families struggling with all forms of addiction. In addition, she serves as a reader for the Queen’s Prize and has provided pro bono support to the Moorfields Eye Hospital and Research team. Vivian was listed as the most influential Black woman in Briton and now chairs the Powerlist 2013. Vivian holds an A.B. cum laude in Sociology and Government and an MBA from Harvard University. Holding both British and American citizenship, she has lived in the United Kingdom for 15 years.
