Computer assisted learning by the blind in rural India

Learning to read and write is essential to everyone, and it is more so for the visually handicapped children. Braille is an effective medium for this purpose, but learning Braille requires more assistance from teachers, and more time and patience from the students. We propose the use of a time sharing system, low cost indigenously developed equipment for user interfacing, and the well known computer assisted learning techniques. With these we intend to promote learning of Braille even in rural parts of India.
