Adequate hydration is critical for the maintenance of good health and has many long-term benefits which make it an essential part of any healthy lifestyle. Dehydration is often associated with negative health outcomes. Workers often report dehydration and difficulties with regular access to drinking water. Furthermore, healthy hydration is often an aspect of employee wellbeing that is overlooked despite the growing existence of interventions focused on improving access to facilities which enhance employee health in the NHS. Hydration should be considered as part of employee wellbeing interventions. Employers have a duty of care to provide their staff with access to good quality drinking water throughout the working day.
