The focus of this study is current research practices in the international academic field of finance and is undertaken with a view to how the field is positioned to innovate and move forward in the 21st century. The study takes two approaches. First, chapter 2 looks at the literature and uses Knhn's structure of scientific revolutions as a framework to examine the development of the field over the last 50 years. Particular emphasis is placed on intellectual shifts occurring in the last decade that are emanating from cross disciplinary research and manifesting in approaches at odds with the traditional rational expectations paradigm-perceptibly shifting the boundaries of the field.
