This thesis is an attempt to have a critical look at the very craft of teaching within the social sciences. The scope of my study is teachers own accounts of their teaching practices within the Swedish secondary education (gymnasieskolan). This is done through interviews which I have performed with two teachers, whose answers I have analyzed textually. My aim is to explore their motivations for their practices with the theory and method of Norman Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis to discover how different discourses emerge, compete and work together.
