The advent of a global ecological crisis has made the issue of eco-sustainable politics a central issue in current social debates. Above all, it is the rise of the Green movement that registers the importance of this issue, such that Green theory is now an important paradigm of contemporary social thought. Greens emphasise the failure of pre-exisiting theories to address eco-degradation. Indeed, they typically argue that pre-existing theories are part of the problem rather than its solution.
