THE TEXTUAL ANALYSIS ABOUT ROHINGYA CRISIS IN THE JAKARTA POST E-PAPER

Language has altered overtime in this era. Recently, some researchers interested in Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) studies which focused on the use of language in a specific context, such as the writers’ language in delivering the message in the news media. Therefore, this study concerns on textual analysis to know the discourse elements of newspaper articles about the Rohingya crisis in The Jakarta Post E-Paper. On top of that, the researcher has selected four articles which relate to one topic; humanitarian crisis. Besides, those data are published in The Jakarta Post E-Paper from September 4th – October 4th, 2017, and this media is the popular daily English-language newspaper in Indonesia. Those data will be analysed based on Van Dijk’s theory. In his theory, textual analysis has 3 (three) levels: macrostructure, superstructure, and microstructure. The method is applied to provide clear and systematic findings is descriptive qualitative. Hence, the findings that based on Van Dijk’s theory will be examined using theoretical triangulation. Further, the findings have to scrutinized by more than one theory, so Fairclough’s theory is sufficient to help the researcher be responsible with the findings. In a brief, the writers had shown their tendency on the Rohingya’s side. The topic from the selected articles represent humanitarian crisis. It is proven by schematic structure and the linguistics features that Myanmar has treated them inhuman and made extended suffering
