The in vivo fate of intravenously injected nanoparticles is strongly affected by their interactions with the blood components. Several studies have focused on the identification of proteins adsorbed at the surface of nanoparticles whereas less attention has been devoted to the interaction with lipoproteins (LPs). Interestingly, LPs have been previously described as excellent carriers for delivery of anticancer drugs due to their particularly high receptor-mediated uptake on several cancer cell lines.
