The effects of rainfall exposure on panel integrity were investigated for oriented strandboard and plywood. Both panel materials experienced substantial increases in moisture content and thickness with limited rainfall exposure and these were coupled with decreases in flexural properties. The results showed that even short-term rainfall exposure was detrimental to the properties of both materials and emphasized the importance of protecting these materials during construction. © Forest Products Society 2013
