Adaptació i actualització a Mansfield Park de Jane Austen

Tutor: Damià Alou RamisIntersemiotic translation is a process on which many cinematographic productions rely, but one in which research often doesn’t go in depth. Despite the great number of literary work’s adaptations, studies tend to focus not on the intersemiotic features, but on others. This study analyses the process of intersemiotic translation in 1999’s adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel Mansfield Park, directed by the Canadian film director Patricia Rozema. The study aims to show the adaptation techniques that have been used in this case of intersemiotic translation from novel to film, but also the director’s approach and motivation when introducing changes. Finally, the study has briefly documented the critic reviews on both works. General tendencies of the process have been extracted from this analysis, as well as conclusions related to the plot variation, and to validity and update. Moreover, the study has shown Rozema’s approach and reinterpretation of the film, taking into account the space of time between each work. Although the work is based on Rozema’s Mansfield Park, the findings and observations can be useful not only to future researchers interested in the director’s work, but also to further research on adaptation’s intersemiotic translation techniques
