Two major events in the biblical stories of the Holy family are how Mary and Joseph, each at a time, are visited by an angel carrying the message of Mary having a baby through the Holy Spirit. Popularly speaking, this message must have blown their minds, and, thereby, they likely found themselves in some sort of crisis afterwards. This essay examines how the psychological theory of Murray Bowen may be useful as a key for interpreting these biblical texts, Luk and Matt 1:18-25.
