PURPOSE: To validate the well-known and often-used impression replica technique for measuring fit between a preparation and a crown in vitro. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The validation consisted of three steps. First, a measuring instrument was validated to elucidate its accuracy. Second, a specimen consisting of male and female counterparts was created and validated by the measuring instrument. Calculations were made for the exact values of three gaps between the male and female. Finally, impression replicas were produced of the specimen gaps and sectioned into four pieces.
