This study is about monasteries in the kingdom of Charles the Bald. This king is the son of Louis the Pious who reformed monastic and canonical life. Though, it is interesting to see if the spirit of the reform is still alive in the religious communities during his reign. In the first part we study the two kinds of friars who live in monasteries: monks and canons. In the second part we see the relationships between monasteries and different kinds of power: the king who protects monasteries, the bishop who has a disciplinary power above monks and canons, the magnates who found some monasteries and the pope.
