International audienceAugustodunum, Civitas Aeduorum chief town, has still a lot of ancient monuments preserved. It has also been the advantage to stay inside the limits set by August before 1960, and as such it is an important archaeological place. Intensive investigations and 19th century observations as soon as 1889 had led to offer a restitution of the ancient city that had not changed until 1974. The reevaluation of some texts, the recent excavations and the examination of archives allow new hypotheses. The most important one shows that the town symbolically has an arx at its summit.
