In the context of a general rise in the level of studies and the weakening of the link between training and work, this article analyses the perceived legitimacy of the inequalities linked to studies and its micro and macro social determinants in a perspective of international comparison. The results of the third phase of the enquiry Social inequality directed by the International social survey program are available. Beyond individual factors such as qualification and salary, which are positively correlated with the perceived legitimacy of studies, this research contributes to demonstrate the importance of national contexts in the subjective value attached to formal qualifications.
