International audienceDuring the years 1930-1940, Haiti became a crossroads and a field of investigation for Haitian, American and French ethnologists. Haitian indigenism and cultural anthropology have certainly given voodoo its nobility, but this valuation was part of the power relations that then passed through Haitian society. One of the reasons for which the cult was discredited throughout the nineteenth century, its African origin, was the very one by which it was valued, the golden youth of the Haitian elite being sensitive to the international success of the imaginary produced on Africa in the years 1920-1930.
