Considérations sur la loi éphébarchique d’Amphipolis

International audienceThe ephebarchical law engraved at Amphipolis under Augustus is one of the most important inscriptions published recently, which considerably enriches our knowledge of the education of the young Macedonians and the Greek ephebeia in general. After the editio princeps commented by K. D. Lazaridou and a synthetic presentation by M. B. Hatzopoulos, this article offers a different interpretation. Drawing on the published photographs, the author republishes the Greek text and proposes several modifications, adding a new French translation. He gives new analyses of the composition and nature of the text, the socio-economic origin of the ephebes, the scope of the law and the character of the ephebic formation at the beginning of the Principate.La loi éphébarchique gravée à Amphipolis sous Auguste est l’une des inscriptions les plus importantes publiées récemment, qui enrichit considérablement notre connaissance de l’éducation des jeunes Macédoniens et de l’éphébie grecque en général. Après l’editio princeps commentée de K. D. Lazaridou et une présentation synthétique par M. B. Hatzopoulos, le présent article offre une autre interprétation d’ensemble. S’appuyant sur les photographies publiées, l’auteur réédite le texte en proposant plusieurs modifications, et il l’accompagne d’une nouvelle traduction française. D’autre part, il propose des analyses nouvelles sur la rédaction et la nature du texte, sur l’origine socio-économique des éphèbes, sur la portée de la loi et sur le caractère de la formation éphébique au début du Principat
