International audienceThe ephebarchical law engraved at Amphipolis under Augustus is one of the most important inscriptions published recently, which considerably enriches our knowledge of the education of the young Macedonians and the Greek ephebeia in general. After the editio princeps commented by K. D. Lazaridou and a synthetic presentation by M. B. Hatzopoulos, this article offers a different interpretation. Drawing on the published photographs, the author republishes the Greek text and proposes several modifications, adding a new French translation. He gives new analyses of the composition and nature of the text, the socio-economic origin of the ephebes, the scope of the law and the character of the ephebic formation at the beginning ...
