International audienceThe invention of Egyptian faience is a recurring topic of research on Early Chalcolithic societies. Specialists of artificial materials, such as glass, are interested in it as an ancestral precursor of this technology. During the fifth millennium BC, the first evidences of faience are small geometric beads. The study presented here aims to highlight the macroscopic characteristics of each method known for faience production: application, efflorescence and cementation. To discuss the development or perpetuation of these techniques during the Naqadian period (fourth millennium), a well-documented case is necessary.
