We investigate the turbulent oscillatory flow generated by propagating surface waves close to the sea bottom focusing our attention on moderate values of the Reynolds number R\u3b4of the bottom boundary layer. For such moderate values of R\u3b4, turbulent fluctuations appear only during parts of the oscillation cycle and the flow recovers a laminar-like behaviour in the remaining parts. Different roughness sizes are considered and both the smooth and the rough flow regimes are analysed.
