In the Sacristy of the Basilica of San Domenico Maggiore in Naples 44 sarcophagi are preserved, including 31 still containing the corpses. 18 artificial mummies contained in these sarcophagi were analysed, in order to reconstruct the art of embalming by crossing literary sources with the results of direct observation
