An international consultation on rattan cultivation , held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, brought together policy markers, foresters, growers, researchers, and industry and marketing companies operating in several South East Asian countries. Through a retrospective analysis and an open debate about the future of a culture capable of generating a market of more than a billion dollars a year, this meeting was intended to generate new practical information and direction for the benefit of national and international organizations involved in the rattan business.
