En español, se documenta un uso popular, no aceptado por la norma, que consiste en sustituir los imperativos de segunda persona del plural (cantad) por un infinitivo (cantar). Este trabajo pretende ser un estudio piloto sobre el uso de infinitivo como imperativo, desde una perspectiva estrictamente fonética. La hipótesis principal de la que se parte es que la forma acabada en vibrante es el resultado de la relajación de la /-d/, que reduciría su duración y ello haría coincidir la forma imperativa con el infinitivo. Los resultados obtenidos indican que existe variación en la realización fonética de la desinencia del imperativo: aproximante dental sonora, vibrante simple, fricativa interdental sorda, vibrante múltiple y elisión.
