© 2018 Dr Xia LiangA multi-dimensional assessment on sustainable reactive nitrogen (Nr) management was conducted. Findings include: (i) the first national assessment of the anthropogenic Nr loss by Australians (47 kg N/capita/year); (ii) the first institutional assessment of Nr loss in Australia (The University of Melbourne, 139 Mg/year); (iii) the first spatial assessment of Nr loss intensity (NrSI) for Australia (6 kg N/capita/year) and other countries; and (iv) a global assessment on Nr loss induced by crop and livestock production (157 Tg/year)
