One of the putative key K. pneumoniae pathogenic mechanisms involves the formation of biofilms on implanted medical devices such as urinary catheter. Biofilms, or surface-associated bacteria embedded in a self-produced extracellular matrix, have been implicated in the virulence of many bacteria.
