The trafficking of these components in the amyloidogenic pathway is thought to influence the levels of Aβ production. In fact, GWAS (Genome wide sequencing studies) has identified several AD susceptibility genes that are associated with the regulation of membrane trafficking (Harold et al., 2009, Lambert et al., 2009, Lee et al., 2011), suggesting that AD could be a result of defective membrane trafficking.
