Master of EducationThis thesis provides insight from qualitative research to support the need for education regarding management of survivors of torture to be included in physiotherapy undergraduate curriculum. An elective subject was designed to maximise the opportunity of students to: (1) develop an empathic relationship with patients (and their families); (2) learn to manage and treat survivors of torture within a physiotherapy context; (3) understand the many contexts in which the physiotherapist may work with survivors of torture; (4) understand the potential impact of this work on the treating clinician and learn about and experience strategies to manage these impacts.
