Piccolo.The essay begins with a general introduction to the liquor traffic of the early Melbourne community. It then focuses on Fitzroy where the relationship between the developing Fitzroy district and the geographical location of the hotels is discussed. Hotels and the Temperance groups always seem to run concurrently and a report on the role of these groups in Fitzroy and their efforts to limit the number of hotels in the area naturally follows.
