The mammalian family consists of VEGF, PlGF, VEGF-B, VEGF-C and VEGF-D and they exert biological effects in tissues by binding and activating their cognate receptors, VEGFR-1, VEGFR-2 and VEGFR-3, expressed on endothelial cells.
