Innovation through the eyes of a teacher

© 2010 Kokilavani ManokaranThis study offers a more humanistic approach to curriculum innovation, by underlining the importance of teachers’ concerns during an innovation. The rationale of this study is to provide a platform for school leaders and change facilitators to monitor the progress of teachers’ concerns during curriculum innovation so as to increase the effectiveness of the innovation. The Stages of Concern (SoC) dimension in the Concerns-Based Adoption Model (CBAM) was used as a framework. A secondary school in Singapore that has been involved in curriculum innovation was used as a case study. The research participants comprised of teachers who have been involved in the curriculum innovation. The Stages of Concern Questionnaire (SoCQ) and in-depth interviews were the research instruments. Based on the data analysis, appropriate interventions based on teachers’ individual needs during an innovation were suggested so to bring the innovation to a higher level
