Non-propagating contractions observed during the fed-state are known as segmentation. In the guinea pig small intestine, nutrient induced motor activity consists of a number of discrete motor patterns including propulsive contractions and rhythmic stationary contractions (segmentation) that occur episodically at specific locations along the intestine.
