An understanding of mechanisms by which the human auditory system codes acoustical information has application to automated speech recognition and cochlear implants. In this paper, we formulate and analyse a mathematical model of the auditory system. The results are used to evaluate certain key theories of intensity and frequency coding.28 September - 1 Octobe
