Microbially catalyzed electrochemical systems for sustainable energy storage A smooth and complete transition towards renewable energy is challenged by the variability of generation of power from renewable resources, which cannot by themselves function as baseload generation. Under business-as-usual scenarios, the integration of renewables beyond 30% of total grid power generation is generally expected to require additional measures to guarantee baseload providence.
