While the use of building information models (BIM) has been well adopted in the building construction industry, similar advances in the rock construction industry has lagged. This is due to the diverse nature of rock constructing and the lack of a BIM- software specifically designed for the modelling of underground structures. As a result, the industry still uses mostly 2D drawings for presenting design information. Presenting a real-life structure in 2D requires the production of multiple separate drawings, including different views and detail drawings.
