The purpose of this study was to find ways to improve currently used flushing method to decrease the time and resources spent on the flushing process. Study was done for international company that specializes in marine propulsion systems. The theoretical part of the thesis examined pipe flow characteristics through hydrodynamics and its impact on the effectivity of flushing as a cleaning method. The benefits of decreasing contamination level of the hydraulic system was studied through component life theory and tribology. In the experimental part of the study, the author attended to on-site flushing process and interviewed flushing specialist along the process.
