This work presents a formulation of mutual contact of two elastic bodies without friction as a boundary-value problem. Physical problems involving contact may eventually occur in any complex mechanical system. The real-world applications may range from the mechanical and civil engineering systems to medical applications. Contact problems are non-linear in nature due to contact constraint of the bodies. The solution of contact problem can be found by modeling the problem as a constrained minimization problem. The minimization problem has the total potential energy of the elastic bodies as the objective function, and the non-interpenetration conditions are represented by inequality constraints.
