[eng] This thesis describes a novel column format to be used in pressure-driven reversed-phase liquid chromatography. The column contains an ordered pillar array where the stationary phase is supported, and it is fabricated in cyclo olefin polymer (COP) by means of standard replication techniques. The pillar array column format has shown much better efficiencies than the other traditional liquid chromatography column formats due to the order achieved with the controlled pillar packing. A particularity of this work is that the unmodified surface of the pillars acts directly as the stationary phase due to the high hydrophobicity of the COP.
