Recognition of emotions in children with cochlear implants mainstreamed in elementary school

Za emocije sa sigurnošću možemo reći da su jedan od najvažnijih čimbenika koji utječu na cjelokupno funkcioniranje pojedinca te imaju vodeću ulogu u životu svake osobe. Kod osoba oštećena sluha može doći do poteškoća u prepoznavanju emocija što rezultira problemima u razvoju, komunikaciji, razumijevanju i izražavanju potreba. Ciljevi istraživanja su ispitati prepoznaju li djeca s umjetnom pužnicom koja su integrirana u redovnu osnovnu školu emocije jednako dobro kao i djeca urednog sluha, postoji li razlika u prepoznavanju emocija između djece koja koriste umjetnu pužnicu duže i one koja ju koriste kraće vrijeme i je li neke emocije lakše prepoznati od drugih. Dobiveni rezultati ukazuju na to da djeca urednog sluha bolje prepoznaju emocije u govoru od djece s umjetnom pužnicom također je dokazano da kombinacija rane rehabilitacije, rana ugradnja umjetne pužnice i duljina korištenja imaju pozitivan učinak na kvalitetu slušanja i prepoznavanja emocija u govoru kod osoba s umjetnom pužnicom. Osim toga, dokazano je da su neke emocije lakše prepoznate od drugih.The understanding of emotions plays an important role from the early years of childhood and is crucial for communicating with others and for expressing ourselves. Our recognition as well as our expression of emotions develops as we do. In children with hearing loss, the recognition of emotions is more difficult and can lead to setbacks in social and emotional growth. The main aims of this study are to examine whether children with cochlear implants recognize emotions with the same efficiency as normal-hearing children, and whether early rehabilitation and time spent using cochlear implants affects their recognition of emotions. Furthermore, this study examines whether some emotions are easier for them to recognize than others. Results show that children with cochlear implants do not recognize emotions as well as normal-hearing children of the same age. Additionally, it has been shown that the earlier the rehabilitation starts and the longer the cochlear implant is used for, the more successfully the emotion recognition task is completed.
