KOMUNIKASI ANTAR BUDAYA DALAM KELUARGA ETNIS JAWA-MAKASSAR (Studi Pada Keluarga Etnis Jawa-Makassar di Asrama Yon Zipur 10 Kota Pasuruan)

Marriages across the cultures were not all going smoothly, there were many obstacles in the marriage process from two different ethnicities, cultural backgrounds, habits, the mind of thinking in different individuals. It made researcher to interest in seeing how intercultural communication took place within ethnically married family. The purpose of this study was to determine intercultural communication in Javanese-Makassar ethnic families in the Yon Zipur 10 Dormitory in Pasuruan. This study used qualitative methods to describe communication behaviors that occur in different cultures. This study used observation, interview, and documentation techniques for collecting the data. The results stated that harmony in ethnically diverse families can be created well. However, at the time of the study the researcher found less harmonious in his household due to economic problems and less open communication between husband and wife. While an individual decided to build a family that was ethnically different, a process of adaptation was needed. Every problem must be decided through deliberation, in addition to the need for mutual reluctance that was shown by the husband or wife. Before marriage, both of them had an open mindset about the couple's culture and the initial agreement about the ethnic group that was the most dominant in the family was ethnic Javanese because it adjusted the current residence. In brief, the study can be drawn that intercultural communication in different ethnic families can be seen how to resolve conflicts that occur. Conflict settlement was done in a rational way without harming both parties. Makassar parties followed the local customs to avoid stereotypes from the community
