UJI AKTIVITAS MUKOLITIK FRAKSI ETIL ASETAT DAUN Lantana camara L. SECARA IN VITRO

Background : Lantana camara leaves have been empirically used as cough medicine. In theotrical perspective, alkaloid, saponin, flavonoid and volatile oil are the secondary metabolites which have mucolityc activity. But, the scientific facts of the mucolytic activity of Lantana camara have not been studied. This is a continued from the previous study indicated that ethanol extract of Lantana camara leaves was able to dilute intestine cattle mucous in vitro that was often associated with mucolytic activity. Purpose : The aim of this study is to assay mucolytic activity of ethyl acetate fractions of Lantana camara L. leaves by in vitro method. Methods :This research was conducted by examining the mucolytic activity of secondary metabolites of ethyl acetate fractions of Lantana camara leaves made with various dose consentration 0,1%, 0,5%, and 1,0%. The mucolytic activity test was performed in vitro based on decrease in the viscosity of the cattle mocous solutions by using Ostwald viscometer. Results : Ethyl acetate fractions of Lantana camara is contained flavonoid and poliphenol/ tanin as the secondary metabolites. Ethyl acetate fractions with dose consentration 0,1% does not have significantly mucolytic activity by decreasing the viscosity of the cattle mucous solutions compared with the negative control. Conclusion : Ethyl acetate fractions of Lantana camara leaves have not mucolytic activity and it is not potentially use as cough medicine
