HUBUNGAN PAPARAN KONTEN NEGATIF INSTAGRAM TERHADAP KECERDASAN EMOSIONAL PADA REMAJA DI SMK MUHAMMADIYYAH 1 MALANG

Background: Emotional intelligence involves the process of understanding and expressing emotions, connecting with the process of thinking and applying them to all situations and conditions. Negative content have a negative impact on society because it will affect the mental, social, moral aspects and is prohibited by the Indonesian government. Besides that social media influences adolescent development. Method: This research is a descriptive study with correlational research design. The sample in this study is students at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Malang. The method of this reseach is cross sectional. The variables observed were the correlation of negative content exposure to emotional intelligence in adolescents. Data analysis using Pearson product moment correlation test with significance value α = 0.05 Result: The results showed that the majority of male adolescents who were exposed to negative content were 24 (38.7%). While on emotional intelligence the majority of adolescents have moderate emotional intelligence as much as 23 (37.1%). The results of the significance test (p) 0.038 <(α) 0.05, so H1 is accepted or there is a relationship between exposure to negative instagram content and emotional intelligence in adolescents in Muhammadiyah 1 Vocational High School Malang. The degree of relationship strength is -0.264, which means having a good relationship Discussion: Exposure to negative content can affect emotional intelligence because the rapid development of adolescence causes great curiosity.
